RLHT Partners with High Peaks Alliance (HPA) on Trail Crew Pilot Program
Update from Ken Beaulieu, RLHT Trail Steward Over the past three weeks, our trail crew has made incredible progress across several of our most loved properties. Thanks to the hard work and leadership of Matt Kusper and the entire HPA crew (including Jacob, who moved more than his fair share of rock!), our trails are looking better than ever—and the improvements are already making a difference for those who hike, walk, and explore these beautiful conservation areas. Here’s a quick roundup of what’s been accomplished:
Hunter Cove Wildlife Sanctuary
- Installed roughly 100 yards of bog bridging—essential for protecting sensitive habitat and keeping walkers dry
- Reopened two trails that had become overgrown
- Spread 10 yards of shale to stabilize the trail surface
- Installed one of our new kiosks, helping visitors navigate and learn more about the site
Forest Legacy
- Lopped miles of overgrown trail to improve access and visibility
- Cleared over two dozen blowdowns, making the trails safer and more passable
Bonney Point Conservation Area
- Built a new rock stairway to improve footing and reduce erosion
- Added 25 yards of new bridging to protect wetlands and improve hiker access
- Crews also installed 38 stepping stones—a more sustainable alternative to bog bridging in muddy sections of the trail
Cascade Stream Gorge Trail
- Cleared and lopped the upper section of trail, making a formerly hidden section visible again
- Constructed three new sets of rock stairways, blending beauty with functionality
